Born 1962 and raised in Vienna, gone to school in Vienna, lived
and worked in Vienna, Austria, Europe and the rest of the northern
hemisphere. First interest of music were dad´s records: Everly
Brothers, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Pat Boone.
Dad plays piano, his great-granduncle, was Hofkapellmeister at the
tsar´s court in Saint Petersburg in Russia!
Mummy also plays piano, her mom, my granny, piano, and granddaddy,
a painter, also violin in addition.
Piano was my first instrument, instruction from 7-11,
guitar got me at age 13 and I am still learning and hopefully always
will.
First band-experiences were before graduation from high school with
a group named "Goetterdaemmerung". Only Gig: the school
conclusion fair for the catholics, what a challenge as I am protestant!
I played guitar and electrified harmonica and we even dared over
J.Geils Band´s "Whamma Jamma"!
The first regular appearances followed at "Papas Tapas"
and "Roter Engel", two down town bars, where the bosses
allowed me to gig once a week. Thus I earned my first money and
my first experience.
At that time I was really bad. The bosses heard it, I heard it but
it did not disturb none of us.
Guitarheroes for me were Big Bill Broonzy, then Merle Travis and
now Guy van Duser. On electric guitar first B.B. King, then Cliff
Gallupp, Albert Lee and Herb Ellis, and finally Danny Gatton (he
was the greatest and is still unbeaten). Because I did not have
anything to do besides going to University to study law, I began
to learn Hawaiian steel guitar.
My first regular band was "Nugget", who I toured the US
with in 1984 with excursion to Nashville/TN and Black Mountain/NC.
I played Dobro and Helmut Mitteregger still plays there.
1988 establishment of the legendary "JOHNNY & THE CREDIT
CARDS" with Sam Beadle from Oxford/GB and Paul Kreshka from
LA/California. Formation years with the "Salty Dogs",
"Tex Robinson" and the rest of Austria´s Country,
Blues, Rock-a-billy and Swing scene.
These
days in a Duo
with Chromy (Viennese songs)
with Chromy (Rock'n'Roll, Hillbilly and Swing)
in a trio with Otahal, piano
in a quartet withYannou Pinu, marching drum.
Unbeatable like Napoleon.
Blessed like Bush, Blair and the Pope.
